Field Operations

P. Flanigan and Sons has been an area leader in heavy civil construction projects in Maryland for over 140 years. We service a wide range of transportation modalities from city streets to state highways, and from seaports to airports.

We are seeking a Surveyor. This role is responsible for conducting site surveys, ensuring accurate measurements, and providing crucial data for project planning and execution. This position requires expertise in using surveying equipment and software, analyzing topographical data, and collaborating with project managers and field crews to ensure precise construction layouts. 

Salary Range:    $75,000 – $100,000, based on experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform topographic surveys and construction layout for civil infrastructure projects
  • Use surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS, and levels to gather accurate data
  • Interpret and verify construction plans, blueprints, and specifications
  • Collaborate with project managers and field crews on site layout, scheduling, and survey accuracy
  • Provide detailed survey reports and maintain records of measurements
  • Verify and mark construction site boundaries and other critical features
  • Adjust survey methods and techniques based on project needs and site conditions
  • Maintain reliability and punctuality, arriving on time at job sites and meetings
  • Manage survey equipment, including calibration, maintenance, security and upgrades
  • Assist in the preparation of final records for the project, including as-builts
  • Assists with coordinating and monitoring the work of subcontractors
  • Promote a positive safety culture, including, but not limited to, daily safety meetings, JHA reviews, accident investigations, monthly audits, toolbox talks, near misses and incident sharing

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience performing construction project layout
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including day, night, or weekend
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments in a wide range of weather conditions, including prolonged walking or standing on varied terrain
  • Must successfully pass all background screenings as required by clients and regulatory agencies
  • Work environment can include working adjacent to live traffic, heavy equipment, loud noises and vibrations of equipment and power tools
