General Foreman

Field Operations

P. Flanigan and Sons has been an area leader in heavy civil construction projects in Maryland for over 140 years. We service a wide range of transportation modalities from city streets to state highways, and from seaports to airports.

We are seeking a General Foreman. The General Foreman will act as the primary on-site leader for civil construction projects, coordinating daily tasks, collaborating with the project management team, managing crews, and monitoring performance. The Foreman also works with subcontractors and vendors onsite.

Salary Range:    $65,000 – $80,000, based on experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and motivate crews
    • Train, manage and mentor crew members
    • Communicate performance expectations for production
  • Promote a positive safety culture, including, but not limited to, daily safety meetings, JHA reviews, accident investigations, monthly audits, toolbox talks, near misses and incident sharing
  • Interpret construction plans for accuracy and planning project layout
  • Prepare work schedules, coordinate crew, tools, equipment, and materials needed for projects
  • Perform scope of work and recognize work done outside of scope
  • Ensure completed work meets or exceeds company standards, adhering to policies and safety procedures
  • Complete daily timesheets, logs and reports to track labor, equipment and job progress
  • Communicate effectively with project management, subcontractors, inspectors, and agencies
  • Work with leadership team to resolve on-site issues and challenges
  • Other duties as assigned by Operations

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 3 years civil construction supervisory experience
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be to work a variety of shifts, including day, night, or weekend
  • Must successfully pass all background screenings as required by clients and regulatory agencies
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and tools
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments in a wide range of weather conditions, including prolonged walking or standing on varied terrain
  • Work environment can include working adjacent to live traffic, heavy equipment, loud noises and vibrations of equipment and power tools
