As Women in Construction Week comes to an end, our last spotlight is on Bridget Scott who has been part of the Flanigan Family for 42 years! Bridget joined our accounting team as billing & subcontractor payables. Her dedication, attention to detail and her eye for numbers led her to her current position Project Controller. We asked Bridget some questions about being a #WomenInConstruction and here is what she had to say!
Why did you choose to work in the construction industry? The challenge of construction cost accounting.
What’s one professional achievement you’re most proud of? Longevity. Work ethic. Being part of a great team of people that are passionate about the company and excelling at what we do every day.
Do you have any tips or advice for a woman aspiring to work in the construction industry? Have the correct mindset to work hard in ever changing conditions.

Meet one of the newest members to the Flanigan Family, Amy Eckert! Amy joined our team in 2023 as our Business Development Marketing Manager. While Amy has only been with us for a little under a year, she has been in the construction industry for 16 years. Here’s what Amy has to say about being a #WomenInConstruction
Why did you choose to work in the construction industry? I didn’t intentionally look for a job in construction but was presented the opportunity, took the leap, and ultimately fell in love with the industry.
What’s a professional achievement you’re most proud of? When I started in the industry, I knew absolutely nothing about construction but with hard work, determination, great mentors, and lots of support I have learned so much & thrived in a fast paced, ever-growing industry. I have also had the privilege of being part of the founding Leadership Council for the Maryland Women of Asphalt, where our mission is to lead and inspire women in the asphalt industry and I am very proud that we are building an organization for women of all facets in our industry.
Do you have any tips or advice for a woman aspiring to work in the construction industry? You can be anything that you want to be in this industry if you have the drive and dedication. Ask all the questions, integrate yourself into the conversations and processes and make yourself be heard.

Our next #WICWeek spotlight takes us to Rita Scott who is part of our Asphalt Sales team! Rita has been part of the Flanigan Family for a year and a half now but is no stranger to the world of construction. Rita said that “I really didn’t choose to work in the industry, it kinda chose me. I was hired for a temporary clerk’s position which turned into several different positions throughout a 35-year career in the industry that I still can’t believe I’m a part of.” Let’s see what else Rita has to say about being a #WomenInConstruction
What I’m most proud of is overcoming the fear of being a minority in a predominantly male industry and having the success and longevity that I’ve had, while building and maintain great relationships throughout the years.
My tips or advice for a woman aspiring to work in the construction industry is- Always be upfront with people, never try to fool them. If you don’t know the answer to something, tell them exactly that and you will get back to them with the answer.

Meet our only female Estimator Amber Dymond! Amber has been in the construction industry since 2005 starting as a Junior Estimator until she joined the Flanigan Family 11 years ago as an Estimator. We asked Amber about being a #WomenInConstruction and here is what she had to say:
How would you describe your journey in the construction industry? The journey in this industry has been very enjoyable. I have met a lot of people who have taught me so much. As large as the construction industry may seem, it is really a small world.
Why did you choose to work in the construction industry? Growing up, my father was a carpenter at heart and I always enjoyed helping him do projects around the house and outdoors. No project is the same and I learn something new, literally every day. Working in the construction industry definitely keeps me on my toes!
What’s one professional achievement you’re most proud of? Being adaptable and reliable. The construction industry is always changing and I’ve always taken pride in making the time to learn and adjust to those changes.
Do you have any tips or advice for a woman aspiring to work in the construction industry? “The only stupid question, is the question never asked.” Do not be afraid to ask questions. Asking questions is how we learn. Over the years, I have learned so much from colleagues, clients, and my own experiences. I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to answer my questions and share their wealth of knowledge with me, as I enjoy sharing mine with others!
