Unforgiving, Not UnsafeMonday, June 13th, 2011
At P. Flanigan & Sons, safety is a daily topic of conversation. Our teams formally discuss safety every day at the beginning of a shift and throughout the day as circumstances change. These short meetings keep safety in the forefront of our thoughts as we perform job tasks throughout each day.
I recently attended an event honoring Michael J. Ward, CEO of CSX. He made the statement that, “Railroad work is not unsafe, but it is unforgiving.” Those words highlight exactly how I feel about road construction. When our crews are focused on safety at the jobsite, our work environment is very safe. However, lapses in safety compliance are unforgiving in this line of work. In order to emphasis the importance of safety at P. Flanigan & Sons, we host an annual safety training week, weekly tool box talks, and daily safety messages and tips delivered via text message to each employee.
We also monitor our lock out / tag out programs throughout the year and regularly have outside safety consultants inspect our facilities and job sites to provide fresh eyes on our operation.
Many thanks to our dedicated employees for always making safety a priority in their work lives.
