Quality in Construction Award for MD I-695Monday, December 10th, 2012
December 2012 – P. Flanigan & Sons received a Quality in Construction Award from the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) for Resurfacing and Safety Improvements to MD I-695 from MD 7 to MD 150.
This project, located in Baltimore County, consisted of grinding existing asphalt pavement, placing over 18,000 tons of new hot mix asphalt and various safety improvements to a portion of the Inner Loop of the Baltimore Beltway.
For this project, crews used the “Safety Edge” for paving. This is a new technology that allows drivers who drift off of the highway to return to the pavement safely. It was used in all areas where there was a potential for a drop off.
The work performed on this project exceeded many quality control measures. The Gap Graded mix achieved the maximum incentive for mix pay factor and the overall International Roughness Index was improved. This will give the traveling public a noticeably improved traveling experience.
P. Flanigan & Sons partnered with the Maryland State Highway Administration to complete this award winning project.
