Elephant Sculpture

P. Flanigan & Sons partnered with Art Blocks, donating time and materials, to slow down traffic and beautify intersections on Auchentoroly Terrace inside of Druid Hill Park, between Gwynns Falls Parkway and Liberty Heights. Conceived by the Mondawmin Neighborhood Association, the five life-size elephant sculptures were created by local artist Barbara Thompson, with assistance from community painters, crafts people, Mondawmin residents and Westside Elementary School students. The sculptures are painted on one side, and have designs created using recycled materials on the other side. As stated on the Art Blocks website, “The elephants are stunning”.

For this project, Flanigan crews excavated  soil and poured concrete footers for each of the five sculptures. Crews also installed the wooden framework in the footers for the sculptures to be placed on.
